Experience: Relevant bar-service experience and demonstrated shift leadership

About the position

We are looking for a Bar Supervisor to join our hospitality team. You will coordinate bar shifts, beverage quality, guest service and authorized stock controls, work closely with relevant departments and maintain reliable standards. The role’s actual authority, location and working conditions will be confirmed during recruitment.

Key responsibilities

  • Inspect bar opening readiness, cleanliness, equipment and approved mise en place before service.
  • Assign bartenders and barbacks to service stations based on predicted guest demand.
  • Check beverage recipes, pour measures, presentation and safe storage against outlet standards.
  • Review stock issue records, breakage, spillage and shift-level beverage variances.
  • Coach colleagues on guest service, upselling where appropriate and accurate POS entry.
  • Coordinate orders and service timing with restaurant, kitchen and event teams.
  • Apply venue policies on age verification, responsible alcohol service and refusal of service where relevant.
  • Record equipment faults, guest incidents and end-of-shift reconciliations for management.
  • Escalate disputes, suspected impairment or safety concerns instead of attempting unsafe interventions.

Skills and qualifications

  • Bar shift coordination and hands-on beverage-service knowledge.
  • Recipe consistency, stock rotation and inventory reconciliation.
  • Guest complaint handling and calm team communication.
  • Awareness of applicable local alcohol licensing and responsible-service requirements.
  • POS billing, hygiene and equipment-check routines.

Benefits and workplace conditions

[Include only employer-confirmed meals, leave, transport, accommodation, training or other applicable benefits.]

How to apply

[Provide the actual employer application URL or monitored recruiting contact, requested documents and next steps.]

Clarify whether the outlet serves alcoholic beverages, licensing requirements, service hours, stock-check authority and the number of stations. For an alcohol-free venue, remove liquor-specific duties rather than inventing them.

What employers should check before posting

  • Reporting and authority: Confirm which decisions the employee owns and what requires approval.
  • Daily duties: Remove responsibilities that do not apply to your property, systems or service model.
  • Employment terms: Verify the approved pay period, working hours, weekly rest and benefits.
  • Qualifications: Require only skills, credentials and licenses genuinely necessary for the work.
  • Application: Replace the placeholder with an authentic recruitment contact or job-posting link.

Bar Supervisor interview questions

  1. How would you investigate a discrepancy between opening and closing beverage stock?
  2. What would you do when a customer appears intoxicated and asks for another alcoholic drink?
  3. How would you reorganize the team when a bar station becomes unexpectedly busy?
  4. What controls help prevent incorrect drink recipes and billing errors?
  5. How would you coach a colleague who regularly overlooks closing checks?

Use the same role-related core questions for applicants to the same position. Ask what the candidate personally did, what information was available and how their decision affected the result.

Practical hiring test

Suggested 45–60-minute assessment: Give a fictional bar shift report, beverage recipe card and stock movement sheet. Ask the candidate to resolve a stock variance, plan station coverage for a peak hour and explain an approved responsible-service escalation. Use fictitious employer and guest data, provide comparable instructions and allow appropriate adjustments for accessibility. Avoid requiring applicants to perform unpaid productive work.

Two assessors may score each area independently from 0–20 using predefined evidence criteria. Determine any safety-critical pass requirements before interviews and document reasons for decisions.

Example of good hiring judgment

A high-volume event begins while a POS terminal goes offline and the shift stock sheet shows an unexplained variance. Ask the candidate to prioritize service continuity, guest safety and documentation.
